| Pat and Rena started their quest for alpacas
in 2002. We visited many ranches before we finally decided to purchase
our first two alpacas.
Like many before us, we were
looking for a low maintenance livestock that would enhance
our lifestyle, build a business that would over time supplement
our income into retirement, help us tax wise and
most importantly; we wanted
to
have some fun.

We fell in love with huacayas.
One look into their big brown eyes and we knew we had found
what we were looking for. Each alpaca comes with its own personality.
It still amazes us how different each one can be.
|
We cleared enough land to pasture our alpacas
and still have enough trees to keep our farm looking “country”.
| The most difficult decision for us was
what to name our ranch. It was the one thing we just couldn’t
seem to agree on. Sitting on our back deck and looking out at
our alpacas grazing was our favorite pastime. One day while
drinking our morning coffee we were talking about how fortunate
we were to be able to look out and see the alpacas grazing and
how neat it looked to see them reflected in one of our three
ponds. |
 |
Thus the name “Reflections
Alpaca Ranch” was created.
 |
At the present we are introducing many desirable lines into our breeding program. We have grown considerably from our first pregnant female and maiden and have been very fortunate to obtain a great diversity of color. There’s nothing that compares to seeing them all contentedly grazing out in our pastures, or watching all the cria (baby alpacas) pronking and playing together. |
Rena quit the hectic life of commuting
back and forth to work at her job as a travel consultant and
now is a full time ranch manager. Currently Pat is still commuting
to Dallas everyday where he manages a materials testing company
but is looking forward to becoming a full time alpaca breeder.
